Explore the dangers of Roundup, the widely-used weed killer, and its effects on human health.

Weeds: a nuisance most homeowners have dealt with at one point or another. After trying everything to solve your yard’s weed problem, you might’ve reached for a bottle of Roundup. This popular weed and grass killer is marketed as a solution to your weed woes.

But are you aware of the potential health risks of using Roundup? If you’ve ever used Roundup, you might have been exposed to glyphosate, the product’s main ingredient. Studies have found that glyphosate is likely a cancer-causing chemical in humans.

In this blog post, we’ll discuss Roundup, cover the associated health risks of using the weedkiller, and explore the legal options available for those injured by prolonged Roundup use or exposure.

What is Roundup and How is it Used?

Roundup is a widely used weedkiller developed by Monsanto, now owned by Bayer. It’s sold at most stores and typically used by homeowners to manage weeds in their yards.

The active ingredient in Roundup is glyphosate. Glyphosate effectively kills weeds and is used in various agricultural, residential, and commercial settings. Farmers use it to control weeds in crop fields, while homeowners and gardeners apply it to manage unruly vegetation in lawns and gardens.

Roundup is available in several formulations, including ready-to-use sprays, concentrated solutions, and even pre-mixed options. Its versatility and ease of use have contributed to its popularity. However, its widespread use has raised concerns about potential human health risks and environmental impacts.

The Link Between Roundup and Human Health Risks

Research has suggested that Roundup is harmful to humans. Glyphosate, Roundup’s active ingredient, is a “probable human carcinogen” according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a part of the World Health Organization (WHO). That means it may cause cancer in individuals who have been exposed to the chemical.

Numerous scientific studies have investigated the potential health risks associated with exposure to glyphosate. Some research suggests a link between glyphosate exposure and specific health issues, including cancer. More specifically, this ingredient has been linked to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and other cancers.

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a type of cancer that develops in an individual’s lymphatic system. The lymph system, part of the immune system, is responsible for keeping the body safe from infection and diseases. Tonsils, adenoids, thymus, spleen, bone marrow, lymph vessels, and lymph nodes are all part of the body’s lymph system.

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma can be an aggressive type of cancer that causes swollen lymph nodes, weight loss, and additional symptoms. Roundup exposure has also been linked to additional lymphatic cancers, including Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), B-cell lymphoma, and T-Cell lymphoma.

Legal Options for Those Harmed by Roundup

Roundup has been the subject of numerous legal battles, with thousands of lawsuits filed by individuals who have suffered from health issues after exposure to the weedkiller.  Both commercial and residential use of Roundup may lead to the development of certain cancers.

As a result of widespread injuries linked to Roundup, numerous lawsuits have been filed against the manufacturers of Roundup to seek justice for users. These cases argue that Bayer was negligent in its distribution of Roundup and did not adequately warn the public about the dangers of glyphosate.

Individuals diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (or other eligible cancers) after a long history of Roundup exposure may be eligible to join the Roundup lawsuit. Individuals who have been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma or other cancers after prolonged exposure to Roundup weed killer could qualify for compensation. To qualify, the Roundup exposure must have occurred before the cancer diagnosis.

Settlement amounts vary from case to case. To date, the manufacturers of Roundup have paid billions of dollars in lawsuit settlements.
