The Depo-Provera shot is a popular birth control medication containing a drug called medroxyprogesterone acetate. Recent studies have shown this injection may raise the risk of developing meningiomas, a type of brain and spinal cord tumor, by upwards of 5.5 times. Now, thousands of people are taking action against Pfizer, Depo-Provera's parent company, by filing lawsuits alleging the company failed to warn consumers about the potential dangers of Depo-Provera.

- The first major lawsuit against Pfizer over Depo-Provera was filed in California in October 2024.1
- Around 25% of women surveyed by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) indicated they had used Depo-Provera before.2
- A March 2024 study published in the British Medical Journal shows a link between the use of Depo-Provera and the risk of meningiomas.3
- While Pfizer has acknowledged the new study, at the time of this writing they have yet to make significant changes to warn patients about these risks.4
